The free marketing tools that hold up in 2026 are Google Analytics 4, Search Console, Google Business Profile, Data Studio, Microsoft Clarity, Ahrefs Free, Canva Free, Brevo, Kit, HubSpot’s free CRM, Buffer, Zapier and Tally. Every one of them has a hard ceiling: Mailchimp Free stops at 250 contacts, Brevo Free at 300 emails a day, Buffer Free at 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each, Screaming Frog at 500 URLs and Zapier at 100 tasks a month.
Each limit and price below was read on the vendor’s own pricing or help page on 1 November 2026, in US dollars. The table shows the exact point where each free plan stops and what the first paid step costs. After it you get the email math by list size, the data tools ranked by how much history they keep for free, the GDPR notes that matter if you are searching for gratis marketing tools from the EU, and a $0 stack for a local service business, a B2B consultancy and an online store, in the order to set them up.
Free marketing tools compared: free limit, upgrade trigger and first paid price
Read the “You must pay when” column first. That is the moment the free plan stops working for you, and it is rarely the moment the vendor’s marketing suggests.
| Tool | Job | Free limit | You must pay when | First paid price (USD) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics 4 | Website traffic and conversions | Free of charge; standard properties keep event data for 2 or 14 months | You need more than 14 months of event history (26, 38 and 50 months are Analytics 360 only) | Analytics 360, no public price | Google, retention help |
| Google Search Console | Search queries, clicks, indexing | Free; 16 months of data; report tables show up to 1,000 rows | Never for your own site; you pay elsewhere only for competitor data | No paid tier | Google (16 months), Google (1,000 rows) |
| Google Business Profile | Your listing on Maps and Search | “At no charge” | No paid tier | None | Google Business Profile Help |
| Data Studio (called Looker Studio until April 2026) | Dashboards and client reports | Self-service tier “at no cost” | You need team workspaces, admin controls and Google support | Pro: $9 per user per project per month | Google Cloud |

| Screaming Frog SEO Spider | Technical crawl of your site | 500 URLs per crawl; otherwise the same features as paid | Your site passes 500 URLs | $279 per licence a year | Screaming Frog |
| Google Trends | Seasonality and topic demand | Public tool built on a sample of Google searches | No paid tier | None | Google Trends FAQ |
| Microsoft Clarity | Heatmaps and session recordings | “Free forever” with no traffic restrictions | No paid tier | None | Clarity |
| Contentsquare Free (hotjar.com/pricing now redirects here) | Heatmaps, replays, surveys | 200,000 monthly sessions; replays capture 5% of sessions up to 10,000; 1 month of data access; 100 survey responses a month | You need more than one month of history or full replay capture | Growth from $39 a month | Contentsquare |
| Mailchimp Free | Email newsletter | 250 contacts; 500 sends a month and 250 a day; 1 seat; no automation flows, no scheduling, Mailchimp branding | Contact 251 or send 501: Mailchimp pauses sending | Essentials from $13 a month (14-day trial) | Mailchimp |
| Brevo Free | Email newsletter | 300 emails a day; 100,000 marketing contacts; 1 seat | One campaign needs more than 300 emails to go out the same day | Starter $9 a month for 5,000 emails | Brevo |
| Kit Free | Newsletter for experts and creators | Up to 10,000 subscribers; unlimited broadcasts; 1 user; no sequences or visual automations | You want an automated welcome or nurture sequence | Creator $33 a month billed yearly ($390) for 1,000 subscribers | Kit |
| MailerLite Free | Newsletter with light automation | 250 subscribers; 2,500 emails a month; 2 users; 3 active automations of up to 5 steps; 1 website and 1 landing page | Subscriber 251 | Comfort from $12 a month | MailerLite |
| HubSpot free CRM | Contacts, deals, email | 2 users; 1,000 contacts; 2,000 marketing emails a month with HubSpot branding | Contact 1,001, a third user, or removing HubSpot branding | Starter $20 per seat a month list price; $10 monthly or $7 billed annually as a limited-time new-customer offer | HubSpot |
| Canva Free | Social graphics, ads, slides | 1.6 million+ templates; 5 GB storage; 1 Brand Kit limited to 3 colors; limited AI | You need a full brand kit or more AI use | Pro $144 a year for one person | Canva |
| Buffer Free | Social media scheduling | 3 channels; 10 scheduled posts per channel; 1 user; 30 days of insights | A 4th channel or an 11th queued post on one channel | Essentials $5 per channel a month ($60 a year per channel) | Buffer |
| Zapier Free | Connecting apps without code | 100 tasks a month; two-step Zaps only; checks for new data every 15 minutes | More than 100 actions a month or any Zap with a second action | Professional $19.99 a month billed yearly ($239.88) or $29.99 monthly, 750 tasks | Zapier |
| Tally | Forms, intake questionnaires, surveys | Unlimited forms and submissions under its fair use policy; 10 MB per uploaded file; Tally branding | You want branding removed, a custom domain or larger uploads | Pro $24 a month (shown as €20 from the EU) | Tally |
| Trello Free | Campaign and content planning | 10 collaborators per Workspace; 10 boards; 10 MB per file | An 11th board or an 11th collaborator | Standard $5 per user a month billed yearly, $6 monthly | Trello |
Two traps hide in that table. First, Brevo’s paid plan can hold fewer contacts than its free plan. Brevo’s pricing data gives the Free plan 100,000 marketing contacts, but the $9 Starter tier with 5,000 emails a month allows only 500 contacts, 10,000 emails allows 1,500 and 15,000 allows 2,500. You only get back to a large contact allowance (500,000) at the 20,000-email tier. Second, Zapier counts a task for every successful action, not for every trigger, per Zapier’s task usage article. A two-step Zap that copies a form submission into your CRM uses one task per submission, so the free plan handles 100 leads a month and then stops.
The SEO rows match our do-it-yourself SEO tools guide, which adds a 60-minute weekly workflow built on Search Console, Ahrefs Free and Screaming Frog.
Which free email marketing tool fits your list: the math by list size
Free email plans cap three different things: contacts stored, emails per month and emails per day. Which cap hits you first depends on your list size and how often you send. Here is the same two-sends-a-month newsletter run through each free plan.
| Your list, 2 sends a month | Mailchimp Free | MailerLite Free | HubSpot free | Brevo Free | Kit Free |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 200 contacts (400 emails) | Fits: 400 of 500 sends | Fits: 400 of 2,500 | Fits: 400 of 2,000 | Fits: each send goes out in 1 day | Fits |
| 600 contacts (1,200 emails) | No: 250-contact cap | No: 250-subscriber cap | Fits: 1,200 of 2,000 | Fits, but each send takes 2 days at 300 a day | Fits |
| 3,000 contacts (6,000 emails) | No | No | No: 1,000-contact cap | Each send takes 10 days: not workable | Fits |
| 12,000 contacts (24,000 emails) | No | No | No | Each send takes 40 days | No: 10,000-subscriber cap |
The arithmetic behind the Brevo column: 300 emails a day means a 3,000-person list needs 3,000 / 300 = 10 days to receive one campaign, and the most Brevo Free can send in a 30-day month is 300 x 30 = 9,000 emails. If you need your 3,000 contacts to get the email on the same morning, the paid route on Brevo is the 20,000-email Starter tier: $9 base plus $23 for the 15,001 to 20,000 email step, so $32 a month on monthly billing, according to Brevo’s pricing. The 15,000-email tier at $25 a month would not work, because it caps you at 2,500 contacts.
Kit Free is the outlier: 10,000 subscribers and unlimited broadcasts for $0. What it leaves out is automation. The day you want a five-email welcome sequence for new subscribers, you move to Creator, which starts at $33 a month billed yearly for 1,000 subscribers and rises with list size on Kit’s pricing slider. My rule of thumb: if your list is under 10,000 and you only send newsletters, start on Kit Free; if you need the newsletter and the CRM in one place for under 1,000 contacts, HubSpot’s free CRM covers both.
Marketing data tools with the best free plan, ranked by how much history you keep
For data tools, the free limit that hurts most is retention. A free plan that deletes your history after 30 days cannot answer “are we better than last year?” Here is how long each free tool keeps your data, from the vendors’ own documentation.
| Free data tool | History you keep for free | What to do about it |
|---|---|---|
| Google Search Console | 16 months | Export queries and pages monthly if you want year-over-year beyond 16 months; the UI tables stop at 1,000 rows, the API returns more |
| Google Analytics 4 | Event data: 2 or 14 months (your choice) | Open the property’s Data retention setting and pick 14 months on day one; history you did not keep cannot be recovered later |
| Contentsquare Free | 1 month of analytics and replays | Review heatmaps within the month you changed a page |
| Buffer Free | 30 days of insights | Copy post results into a sheet at month end |
| Ahrefs Free | 5,000 crawl credits per project each month | Run one full audit a month; credits are used only for HTML pages that return a 200 status |
| Data Studio | Reads live from each connected source | Your dashboard history is only as long as the source’s own retention |
The practical stack for “marketing data on a free plan” is Search Console plus GA4 plus Clarity, joined in one Data Studio report. Our marketing reporting tools comparison covers what Data Studio Pro and the paid connectors add when clients or partners need a branded report.
Gratis marketing tools in the EU: GDPR and pricing notes
A good share of the searches that lead here are in Dutch and German (“gratis marketing tools”, “marketing-daten-tools mit bestem gratis-plan”). If your visitors are in the EU, three things change.
- Clarity needs a consent signal. Since 31 October 2025, Microsoft enforces consent signals for visits from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. Consent starts as denied for those visitors, no Clarity cookies are set without consent, and with analytics storage denied Clarity collects only cookieless data, so recordings and funnels may be limited, per Microsoft’s consent documentation. Wire Clarity to your cookie banner (a supported CMP, the Clarity consent API or Google Consent Mode) before you judge its data.
- GA4 needs consent mode set per region. Google lets you set a default consent state for specific regions, and notes that when users deny consent through an IAB TCF banner, GA4 cannot model the missing data, per Google’s consent mode help. Expect lower EU numbers in GA4 than in Search Console.
- Some tools are EU-built. Tally says it is made and hosted in the EU, is based in Belgium, complies with GDPR and stores form data in Europe, per its pricing page. That makes it an easy choice for intake forms that collect personal data.
Prices also change with your location. From an EU address, Brevo Starter shows as €7 a month instead of $9 and Tally Pro as €20 instead of $24. Contentsquare bills European customers in euros, and Zapier sets prices in USD and converts at the exchange rate on the payment date. Compare plans in your billing currency, not in the dollar figures you see in US reviews.
Free plan or free trial? Tools that only look free
A free plan has no end date. A free trial ends after a set number of days (14 for Mailchimp’s paid plans) and then bills you or drops you back to the free tier. Several tools that appear in “free marketing tools” lists are now trial-only or have changed hands.
- AnswerThePublic lists no free plan on its pricing page. Starter costs $20 a month or $120 a year. For free question research, use Search Console queries and Google Trends instead.
- Hotjar‘s pricing URL now redirects to Contentsquare, so the old Hotjar free-plan numbers you see quoted elsewhere no longer apply. The free plan to check is Contentsquare Free.
- Mailchimp runs two things side by side: a permanent Free plan (250 contacts) and a 14-day trial of Essentials and Standard. Starting the trial does not raise your free limits.
- HubSpot and Contentsquare both show discounted entry prices on their pricing pages (HubSpot Starter at $10 instead of the $20 list price for new customers, Contentsquare Growth at $39 next to a struck-through $49). Budget on the list price if you plan to stay past the offer.
- Ahrefs splits into a genuinely free tier for your own verified sites and a paid Starter plan from $29 a month for competitor research. Our best SEO tools comparison prices the paid SEO suites if you outgrow the free tier.
The $0 marketing stack by business type, in setup order
Set tools up in this order because each step feeds the next: measurement before content, capture before automation. Every tool listed is on its free plan.
Local service business (plumber, dental practice, accounting office)
- Google Business Profile. Claim and verify it first; it is the listing on Maps and Search and costs nothing.
- Google Search Console. Verify the domain so you see the local queries you already appear for.
- Bing Webmaster Tools. Use Import on the My Sites page to pull the site from Search Console; imported sites are verified automatically, per Bing’s import guide.
- GA4. Set event retention to 14 months and mark your quote form and phone click as key events.
- Tally for the quote request form, then a two-step Zapier Zap from Tally into the HubSpot free CRM: one task per lead, so up to 100 leads a month for $0.
- Microsoft Clarity to watch where visitors drop off the quote form (with a consent banner if you serve EU visitors).
- Canva Free plus Buffer Free for 3 social channels, 10 queued posts each.
First paid upgrade: Zapier Professional at $19.99 a month billed yearly, once you pass 100 leads a month. That is a good problem to have.
B2B consultancy or professional services firm
- Search Console and GA4, retention set to 14 months.
- HubSpot free CRM: 2 users fits a two-partner firm, with room for 1,000 contacts. Our guide to choosing a CRM by stage explains when to move off it.
- Kit Free for the newsletter, up to 10,000 subscribers.
- Tally for the discovery-call questionnaire, with a two-step Zapier Zap into HubSpot.
- Canva Free for LinkedIn graphics and Buffer Free to schedule them.
- Ahrefs Free and Screaming Frog for a monthly site check; Screaming Frog stays free as long as the site is under 500 URLs.
- Trello Free for the content calendar (10 boards, 10 collaborators) and Data Studio for a one-page monthly report.
First paid upgrade: Kit Creator at $33 a month billed yearly, the day you want an automated welcome sequence. Add Buffer Essentials for two channels at $5 each and your monthly software bill is $43. Our content marketing tools stack shows what the $100 and $500 a month versions add.
Ecommerce store
- GA4 and Search Console before anything else, so every later test has a baseline.
- Microsoft Clarity or Contentsquare Free on product and checkout pages. Contentsquare keeps one month of data, so review it the same month you change a page.
- Brevo Free for the customer list: 100,000 contacts stored, 300 emails a day, 9,000 a month at most.
- Ahrefs Free site audit rather than Screaming Frog free: a store with 300 products and 40 categories already has more than 340 URLs before blog posts and filters, so the 500-URL crawl cap arrives quickly, while Ahrefs Free gives 5,000 crawl credits per project a month.
- Canva Free and Buffer Free for product posts on up to 3 channels.
- Data Studio to combine GA4 and Search Console into one weekly view.
First paid upgrade: Brevo Starter at the 20,000-email tier ($32 a month on monthly billing) once your list passes the point where 300 emails a day delays a campaign by more than a day.
When free stops being free
A free plan costs you money when a cap forces a workaround that eats more time than the paid plan costs. Use the “You must pay when” column as your trigger list, and upgrade one tool at a time, starting with whichever sits closest to revenue: the CRM, the email tool or the lead form connection. My view: the first paid tool for most service firms should be email automation, because a welcome sequence is the one job none of the free email plans above will run at any meaningful size.
If you would rather have someone pick the stack, set it up and decide what to pay for as you grow, you can book a consultation.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best free marketing tools?
For most small businesses: Google Analytics 4, Search Console and Google Business Profile for measurement and local visibility, Microsoft Clarity for heatmaps, Ahrefs Free for site audits, Canva Free for design, Kit Free or Brevo Free for email, HubSpot's free CRM, Buffer Free for social scheduling, and Tally plus Zapier Free for forms. All have permanent free plans, with limits checked on vendor pages in November 2026.
What is the best free email marketing tool?
It depends on list size. Kit Free covers up to 10,000 subscribers with unlimited broadcasts but no automated sequences. Brevo Free stores 100,000 contacts but sends only 300 emails a day. HubSpot free allows 1,000 contacts and 2,000 marketing emails a month. Mailchimp Free and MailerLite Free both stop at 250 contacts, so they suit only very small lists.
Are there free marketing tools without a free trial time limit?
Yes. Google Analytics 4, Search Console, Google Business Profile, Data Studio, Bing Webmaster Tools and Microsoft Clarity have no paid tier you are pushed into. Ahrefs Free, Canva Free, Buffer Free, Zapier Free, Tally, Trello Free and HubSpot's free CRM are permanent free plans with usage caps. AnswerThePublic, by contrast, lists no free plan on its pricing page.
Which gratis marketing tools work for EU businesses under GDPR?
Tally says it is made and hosted in the EU and stores form data in Europe. Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics 4 both work in the EU but need consent signals: since 31 October 2025 Clarity enforces consent for EEA, UK and Swiss visits and collects only cookieless data without it. EU visitors also see prices in euros, such as Brevo Starter at 7 euros.
Which marketing data tools have the best free plan?
Search Console keeps 16 months of data for free and GA4 standard properties keep up to 14 months of event data, so those two give you the most history. Add Microsoft Clarity, which is free with no traffic restrictions, and combine all three in a free Data Studio report. Contentsquare Free and Buffer Free keep only about one month of data.
Is there free marketing planning software?
Trello Free supports up to 10 collaborators and 10 boards per Workspace, which is enough for a campaign and content calendar. Standard costs $5 per user a month billed yearly. Pair it with a free Data Studio report for results and Google Trends for seasonal timing, and you can plan a year of campaigns without paying for software.
